well I'm a native American that has lived in Mississippi for over half my life , and if your looking to move to Mississippi it;s a very lovely place to live , very peaceful and easy living , it;s know as the hospitality state it;s very friendly has lots of water, as well as water sports to enjoy in the summer time ,it does get hot but cools down some as night falls comes , you really will need a air conditioner , but the way of living is wonderful , people cooking out on the BBQ grills , and there's horse back riding and 4 wheelers around as well parks to go to for picnic's and lots for the kids to do and lots of things for them to play on , but over all must of the time it's very quite and peaceful and layed back , and if you live in the country it;s also very private as well , lots of luck on your move i know you want regret it,

I've only visited the Mississippi area twice. However, I thought it was absolutely beautiful. Very lush and green. The historical sites and cities are wonderful, if you're interested in learning more about the history of the area and how it plays into American and world history as a whole.

Although it can be very warm and muggy in the summers, most of the areas are very quiet and peaceful. Small town living, if you want a laid back atmosphere. Some of the larger cities are the same (like Jackson), but with a little more city flavor.

A good source of information for any locations is http://www.citysearch.com . You can learn a lot about the major cities and areas through this site.

Hope this helps some :>

I've spent about a month total in Mississippi. However my sister lived there for 20 years.
Depends on what you want and where you are coming from.
If you are moving from another Southern state, then it won't be as big a culture shock. We grew up in Michigan, so my sister was always a Yankee to the folks down there.
As others mentioned, it has unbearable heat and humidity and if you are very far out of town the bugs are unreal. Rattle Snakes etc.
The educational system is like a lot of places. Crappy on the public level but a good university system. Of course, when I lived in NC we were always thankful for Mississippi. At least we knew we wouldn't be on the bottom of the educational and economic list.

Lots of humidity and very hot. Miserable to be outside or not have an air conditioner. Things mold very easy because of all the humidity. Walls of your house, clothes in your closets, the walls on the outside of your house, etc.

lived here all my life. love it!!! Its slow paced easy going.. People get along well in my part of the State (South Central). Despite what people think. lots of outdoor activities here. hot climate in summer , but very mild winters.

I LIVE IN BRANDON, MS. A SUBURB OF JACKSON. IF MOVING HERE, I WOULD SUGGEST MOVING TO ONE OF THE MAJOR CITIES - COAST AREA, HATTIESBURG, JACKSON, VICKSBURG, MERIDIAN, TUPELO, MEMPHIS SUBURBS. OUTSIDE OF THE MAJOR TOWNSAND THEIR SUBURBS, LIFE SEEMS PRETTY DULL. THERE ARE SOME REALLY NICE TOWNS IN THE JACKSON AREA - BRANDON, FLOWOOD, MADISON, RIDGELAND.
