The "normal" color of poo should be brown because it's colored by degraded bile. Hemoglobin in your blood is turned into bile pigment in your liver and then secreted into your intestines via the gall bladder. After emulsifying fats, most of the bile salts get recycled but some of the excess bilirubin is dumped in with your poo. That's what gives it a brown/green color and is also responsible for the yellow color of pee (though through a different mechanism). If your poo is ever white or very gray, it could be a sign of liver damage. But usually, you'll notice you have jaundice at the same time.

Eat beets: turns purple
Eat lots of hummus: turns beige
Drink pepto bismol: turns black

The rest is brown because it's like when you mix all the bars of play doh together, you get grey play doh. When you mix food, drink and all the acid and enzymes, you get brown.

Cheers.

No. Raised three kids, and saw all kinds of colors, and just didn't worry about it that much.
