Pretty loud. Belt is brand new. Any idea what to look for? Is a noisy belt a serious problem? Makes the sound when wheel is rotated forward on motorcycle jack. Sounds kinda like the belt teeth clicking into the rear pulley teeth.

Thanks

I'm not a Harley mechanic. Jap bikes with belt drive make that type of noise if the rear wheel is mis-aligned. To adjust the belt tension, there is a belt tension adjuster bolt on each side of the wheel that pushes the axle backwards. If they're not adjusted equally, the rear wheel won't be pointing directly forward. The belt gets stuck in the pulley until the very last second, then "pops" out. I don't know if Harley's have similar belt tensioners.

a noisy belt is a sure sign something is wrong...look for a factory defect in the way of a crack on the backside of a tooth also looking from the side you may be able to see a tiny seperation begining. new belts can have these problems.
can you change the rotation direction?

Are you sure you have the correct belt for your year/model sportster?
