I was an engineering major when I first started college at 17. It is a major that requires a great deal of discipline. I think that it is even better that he is older. When you are pursuing your education at an older age, you realize moreso how important it is to not play around, not miss classes, and waste monies and time. I think that he would be a perfect candidate, as long as he loves what he is doing, it is never too late.

It is never too late to get an education! Many people go to college for the first time in their 40s, 50s and older! Tell your friend he is wasting time by saying he is getting older and to just do it! Heavens, those in medical school are usually older than 28 when they finish their education. Age is only a number and a career is a lifetime choice. He needs to do what will make him happy.

No way is he too young. Engineering is more of a way of thinking systematically than a memorized, rote answer. Plenty of jobs for engineers, many opportunities with an engineering background to try new careers as well.

It's never too late to educate yourself. I friend of my parents waited until he was 35 to go to law school and he now has a very succesful practice and is a state rep in Missouri. Tell him to go for it.
