I got induced at 40 weeks and I'd say it hurts more than the baby actually coming himself. I did not get to choose the time or date.

Well with my first I was induced at 37 weeks but it was not planned. my pre-eclampsia had something other for me in mind!
With my second I asked to be induced because I was pre-eclamptic again and was so swollen and miserable I could barely move- So my doctor induced me at 39 weeks.
In general most doctors won't induce before 38 weeks. And as you are 40 weeks I do not see why you could not ask your obgyn to induce you.
Sometimes it is just not better to stay pregnant longer than the estimated 40 weeks! Good luck I feel your pain and I really hope your doctor will induce you!
Try walking and as weird as it sounds try having sex! The prostiglandins in semen help ripen the cervix and walking helps make you contract. Between your membranes being stripped and sex and/or walking it should help you get moving right along!

I was induced at 39 weeks with both of my children... mostly for convience sake. The first was due Christmas Eve and we didn't want to be in the hospital for the holiday, and with the second my husband was about to get EXTREMELY swamped at work. I was 3 centimeters dialated both times I was scheduled to be induced, so it's not like we were way premature in having the kids.

I got induced 1 day after my due date because my doc didn't want me to pop on the weekend (when he was off, so he didn't have to come in!!). He asked me if that was ok, so I sorta got the choice.
Personally, I don't have anything to compare it to (my only birth so far) but I loved it. It took the worry out of having my water break at home or out somewhere, and I was all ready to go. It was great.

I was never induced- sorry. With my first they ended up breaking my water during labor to get it going faster-only an 8 hour labor total, but with my second my water had already broken at home. They ended up giving me pitocin because I wasn't progressing at all after 5 cm. (that was10 hours after my water broke.) Then after 6 hours on the pitocin I finally gave birth!

i got induced with my son. I was having problems with my blood pressure, and gestational diabetes. plus, my sons heart rate was getting low. I was 36 weeks pregnant. no i didn't get to choose when. but my circumstance sound completely different from yours. so, this might not help at all.

I had my son 9 days past my due date. Don't worry, it's not much longer.
