other than the whirring and grinding noises it seems to run OK though. NOT regular normal sounding noises!

Could be the cooling fan or the hard drive. Check both.

4 reason possible

1) Fan needs to be replaced or cleaned.
2) Hard drive is making noise (which is normal if its old version, but still keep data back-up's)
3) CPU cover is vibrating, get its screws tightened.
4) Fan speed increases above normal for cooling overheated CPU.

Could be the power supply, CPU cooling fan, or the hard drive. If you can disconnect the hard drive and see if the noise continues and do the same with the cooling fan.

Could be the cooling fan going. Could also be the motor for the Hard Drive going. Both are not good. Take your PC to a pro and have it checked.

Hard to tell could be the fan or your hard disk crashing and burning. Depending upon the age of your machine you may want to have your local computer store check it out. Usually most local radio stations have a computer progarm on the am dial each weekend you may want to check it out or you could just take to the local computer store of your choice...if its an older computer....prepare to buy a new one!

Something that spins is broken

Consider: HDD, cooling fan, optical drive

Observe, if it still works, stall. Else, have it serviced. Good luck!
