Well, I hope that I can help.
I'm fom Portugal (in Europe)...it's not a very known country, and we suffer with that, because we used to be one of the world's most important countries...500 years ago.

How are we like? Physically, I can say we're, on average, medium build, not very tall, and a good portion of the men and women in my country are brunettes with brown eyes.

Portuguese people can be described as helpful;
good with foreing laguages (well, at last we try and make an effort to understand them) ;
a bit melancholic and sad (our typical music is called "fado", meaning "Fate", and it's usually a sad and depressing type of song) ;
we hate soccer referees and our politics ;
sadly, our economy is one of the worst in Europe right now;
we love the beach, we're addicted to soccer, and we love to go out to malls, have something to drink (usually coffee) in a coffee shop or in a tavern...
We have a great nightlife (one of the best in Europe, expect us to get out of our houses by 11 pm, be in a bar by 1 am starting to drink, and ending in a club dancing until the sun rises).

I think that's pretty much it. Oh, I forgot to tell you one thing...I believe it is a universal truth in Portugal. We love our country, but we are always badmouthing it, we always believe that we are the worst. But if a foreign person badmouths our country, we'll hate him for eternity. NO ONE can badmouth Portugal if they're not portuguese.

I hope that I could help =) good luck with your english test!

I'm from Australia, we have a pop. of 20 million people, which is absolutely tiny for size of the country. It's a really relaxed place to live, and we have a big beach culture(especially in mainland Australia). We're a democracy, and don't get worked up too much about poiliticts, for the most part. City people are a lot more tolerant about gays, ethnicity etc; then people out in the bush...not sure why.
We're a really multicultural society. Lots of indians, chinese, japanese, italian and other nationalities here. We don't really have any traditions at all, because we're such a young country. We really like our sport here(everyone except me it seems)and lots of people get excited by the olympics and soccer etc;.

I'm from tasmania, the scummy island at the far south. It's a lot more...english down here than the rest of australia, and really cold. Say what you liek about Australia in your report, most things you could say are true. We have so many different people/things here and we're probably the only country who's had a real fresh start at society.

Enjoy

I am from South Africa.
It is very difficult to pin down the characteristics of South Africans... We have 11 official languages and many different ethnicity's living in our borders.
One thing is for sure, all of the people in SA are very hospitable and friendly.
SA has had a very turbulent political past but came of age in 1994 when we had our first democratic election, before then it was just a huge mess called Apartheid.
There are English, Zulu, Swazi, Venda, Pedi, Sotho, Ndebele, Afrikaans, Tsonga, Xhosa and Tswana people in my country that make up the official languages... not to mention people that immigrated here... Greek, Portuguese, Lebanese etc...
The religion is mostly Christian but also ethnic beliefs, Islamic, Hindu...
Hope that helps....
The people here are all the shades from black to very pale.
Good luck with your test :-)

Do you want something physical? The United States has a lot of different nationalities living within its borders. It is a nation of immigrants and there is no typical "US" looking person.

Do you want something cultural? Most people wear blue jeans and t-shirts a lot, though people dress up to work and go out. People go to movies, theaters, arcades, malls, concerts, restaurants, and parks for entertainment.

That doesn't sound like an article but more like a semester research paper... meaning a lot of information to put into a small paper.

What kind of characterristics? Do you mean physical, cutlure, or belief system?

We USA citizens live in a country where we don't have to think about our nationality.

Why should we have to?? Other folks that think about other countries' nationalities then think about their own nationality, and compare and contrast the two.

We Americans don't have to do that. What do other countries have to offer us??
