my friend has a pc with about 10,000 songs on it. since that boggs down his computer, i suggested that he keep his music on an old computer of mine and do his daily internet surfing on his regular computer.

1. the computers are not networked, and we really don't want to network them.
2. don't really want to buy parts that we are only going to use once (looking for lowest cost option)
3. old computer has a dvd burner in it (but the music is on the other computer)

can anyone provide a good solution that would help him have a faster computer to browse the internet and also be able to back up his music..he's afraid computer 1 may give out and he will lose all of his music.

thanks!

you need to either do one of the many listed below:

1. get external/internal burner one for backup disc onDVD or CD
2. get a LAN line cable and network it transfering files
3. get a removable USB HARD DRIVE folder by folder
4. get a USB Cord that can transfer one PC to other
5. get PC with music and add Hard Drive to existing PC
(this creates C drive and a D or E drive added for big space)
6. get external Hard Drive and back up everything
7. get MP3player and transfer from space given slowly
8. get memory card that comes with reader or ya cam/PSP/etc

With both computers turned off, take the hard drive out of the computer that has all the songs. Go to the other computer and unplug the two cables that go into the back of the CD (or DVD) drive in that computer. Plug the hard drive from the first computer into those cables. Turn on the computer.

You should see the hard drive with all the song added as a new drive (letter D: or E: or whatever the next available letter is). You should be able to copy the songs off the D or E drive and onto the C drive of the computer.

Once done, turn off the computer, remove the extra hard drive and return it to its own computer. Reattach the CD drive.

Try to save songs in my music, you should then be able to email it, or use one of the music softwares out there. Since the one computer does not have a burner, you can try saving on a floppy and then loading on new computer. Remember you can not store a lot on 1 floppy you may need to use more than one.

Since i am unsure how much $ you want to spend to solve this problem one quick way is to buy a new internal hard drive or even an external hard drive and move all the songs there.
