If they have children together, he will be in touch with her for the rest of his life. If he doesn't have kids with her, he's still carrying a torch and you need to 1) address this issue with him and tell him it bugs you, or 2) move on. It sounds like he hasn't moved on yet. I dated someone like that when I was 24 - he was 35 and divorced and would still go to his ex-wife's house to help her paint and so forth. He said their relationship was purely platonic, but after 3 months of dating I got tired of wondering and left him. It was the best decision I ever made! Eventually, it just gets too suspicious. You either need to decide to be comfortable with it or let him know how you feel about it. You can't force him sto stop doing anything because if he really wants to he can figgure out a way to do things behind your back.
You other option is break up with him.

it seems as though he still has not gotten over his ex. do not be the second option for him. let him know whats on your mind and how you feel about the situation. let him know if he continues to see her, then you are GONE!!
he is still having his cake and eating it too..as long as you allow this to happen he will continue to have both of you.

why would he be going by to see his ex? A very very bad situation for you it sounds like to me. get to the bottom of it...make it stop, or move on.
