when are you going? the arts festival runs throughout this weekend. if your not going till july there is the regatta and of course the all star game! but for fans who cant afford to go to the game can go to fanfest. its at the convention center. also we have three rivers so try and take advantage of that. there is a place under the sixth street bridge you can rent kayaks and stuff. there are also nice bike/walking/rollerblading trails on the north shore by the stadiums! for nightlife there is southside, strip district, and the waterfront. if you are into plays and musicals there is a cultural district on penn avenue between 6-9 street where there are some theaters. also ride the incline and spend some time at station square! also go to the Carnegie museum of art and history its in oakland. you can find directions to all of these places just ask anyone. there is also the ft. pitt museum in point state park. there is also kennywood which is an amusement park and sandcastle which is a water park! they are about a half hour outside of the city though. have fun!!

First of all, Pittsburgh has great sporting and cultural events, many are free, so check out on the internet what might be going on. There's always a concert somewhere or shows going on at the Benedum or Heinz Hall, or sometimes you can find free concerts in some of the parks.
Secondly, as far as bars and clubs go, there's a few main areas with some great places. The southside is good for bar-hopping, with many cool small bars that have their own charm. Station Square has some good restaraunts, clubs like Matrix and Saddleridge, the Hard Rock and some shopping. The Strip District has a lot of shopping, especially food markets, and some nightclubs too. Oakland is cool to visit with Pitt right there. Point State Park usually has interesting events going on, and is just a very pretty area.
Oh yeah and there's all the museums too. The Carnegie, the Science Center, the Warhol, the Heinz History Center, the zoo, the aviary, Phipp's Conservatory (plants), etc.
I personally love Pittsburgh, I was born and raised here. I think its a beautiful city so I hope you enjoy it!

I'm from the south and I have family in Pittsburgh and this is some of the things I like to check out while I'm there. The Water Ducks, The Incline, Heinz Field (Go Steelers!), Mt. Washington, Underground Station, Eat n' Park (it's a family tradition, there's none in the south), Kennywood, The Waterfront, and The Andy Warhol Museum. HAVE FUN!!

There are a few "must-see's" in Pittsburgh:
1 - Ride the inclines. They're the best view of the city, and two of the few remaining working inclines in the world.
2 - Check out the Mt. Washington overlooks while you're at the top of the incline. If you're going to be here for any fireworks (it doesn't have to be the 4th, we have them ALL of the time), see them from Mt. Washington. It's beautiful.
3 - Just Ducky Tours - An amphibious vehicle that takes you through downtown and ON the river. Very cool.
4 - There are also lots of "intellectual attractions" if that interests you. Heinz History Center, Carnegie Science Center, and Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
5 - If you want to do some pub crawling, the South Side is the best. Dozens of bars in a few block distance - everything from quiet and cheap to trendy and "rockin'."
6 - We also have a wonderful variety of restaurants, but if you want to check out the local food, you MUST go to Primanti Brothers and have a sandwich (corned beef is my favorite).

the South side is the best place to go to bars. There is also the waterfront. In july you can also go to the amusement park kennywood. While your there, check out the andy warhol museum. Visit station square. Take the incline from station square to mount washington. Walk down to the point and dip your toes in the fountain water and revel in seeing the famous three rivers that pittsburgh is known for. But most importantly after a night of drinking stop in at Primantis Bros and get a famous sandwhich. You won't ever forget it!

the just ducky tours are a must and th bars on carson street are the best in the country... there's a website pittsburghroars.com that also has a list of summer events in the city... if you want to see a show pittsburgh is great for that too, the cabaret is inexpensive and fun, it's right in the cultural district on penn ave.... yeah the museums are great but who wants to be inside in july?... all around downtown, the north shore, and the south side there are always events so keeping busy shouldn't really be hard to do... have fun

I'm from Pittsburgh. It is a beautiful city, and I love it there. I suggest you go to the waterpark called Sandcastle, especially since it's July when you're going. I took my little cousin there, and we had a great time. The lazy river there is a nice way to relax in the hot sun. Carneige Science Center is cool; last summer they had a whole room devoted to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They had sour candy to taste and they took pictures of your face! Sometimes they show movies there, too. And there is a cool Sports center next to the Science Center. That is fun!
