sadly i would have to agree, video game manuals are now read more than books, but there is the Artemis Foul series, Anthony Horowzitz books, but also a lot of teenagers are reading adult books now at an earlier age with books like the Da Vinci code and the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy (older books seem to be making a comeback)

I checked the stats on our school library computer - we've got students between 11-16 years old. The most popular author was Jacqueline Wilson followed by Malorie Blackman. Meg Cabot is also very popular. Interestingly, although people assume girls are the top library users, we have many more boys in the LRC than girls. The boys read IN the library but the girls are the top borrowers of books. So boys are reading though not borrowing and girls are borrowing but who knows if they read?!

My friends and I read different books. Some are mangas like Fushigi Yugi. We read some of Meg Cabot's books like "The Princess Diaries" and "All-American Girl" and I like "The Outsiders." My friend's into this book called "Twilight." Now for boys, I really don't know. Most of the time I see them reading Skateboard magazines and The Da Vinci Code and all these other thriller books. But that's just what I see, not what I know.

The works of a writer called Jacqueline Wilson are quite popular with young readers, especially girls. Her books "Girls in Love" and "The Story of Tracy Beaker" have been made into TV serials. Some of her works have also been adapted into touring stage versions and have sold out at a lot of venues, including one that I used to work for.

"The Horrible Histories Collection" is really popular too, one of my younger brothers loves those books.

try an author called Darren shan, 12 books about a boy who becomes a vampire, bit scary so for about 12 upwards, bit of gore and fight scenes but nothing unsuitable as they are written for that age group, read them when i was 13 and loved them, unputdownable, (if you're that age anyway) also the his dark materials trilogy, starts with the northern lights, all the qualities of the above but with a stronger, more original and more interesting storyline, and that's saying something. little bit more advanced maybe because of complicated language and Ideas, although having said that i read them when i was 11 and thoroughly enjoyed them. but altogether FANTASTIC!!!!!!! (by the way I'm 15 and love literature, we're not all into nothing but gamesconsoles)

I think its very important to get children to start reading The Lord of the Rings and the rest of Tolkiens work from quite an early age - they are truly tremendous books and when you get older you dont have as much time to start readin them!!
and what do you mean apart from harry potter! dont you want to read them -they are theee best books ever! (",)
