I LIVE HERE!!!!!!!!

Kansas city, MO......... no, i dont suggest you go there its not the nicest. On the other hand, the metropolitan area provides a wide range of choices. Do some research on moving into a city in Johnson County Kansas right next door to KCMO. Beautiful area with many cities and a very clean place. Its the 7th richest county in the U.S. with some very fine schools.

Personally i live in Merriam, KS and i think it is very safe here and a great place to live, if you wish to live a nice life you can enjoy one here. Kansas city, MO does have some nice attractions and is not bad for visiting i just wouldnt live in it. This is a giant metropolitan area with lots of culture and people from around the world call this place home and thrive here.

I suggest you download Google earth and See just how far Merriam, KS and Kansas City are apart. And while you are there you can see what im talking about as far as Johnson county, it includes the cities of Shawnee, Overland Park, Lenexa, Westwood, Fairway, Prarie Village, and Merriam all of them great places to live and work with fair wages and a high quality of life.

If you mean Kansas City, Missouri (a.k.a. Kansas City, Misery), then NO, it is not a good place to live.

In a previous answer someone mentioned that they lived here in 88-89. Well this is 2006 and a lot has change since then.

The crime rate has sky rocketed and BOTH Kansas City Missouri & Kansas are both very dangerous places to live, and to tell you the truth St. Louis Missouri is even worse.

In a 2005 national report on the most dangerous places to reside in the United State Kansas City, Missouri was voted more dangerous to live then New York City and other placeS commonly know for high crime rates.

Kansas City, Kansas is just as bad, if not worse. True, crime does exist everywhere across the globe, however I can only speak of 1st hand knowledge of a city's reputation that I live in & have for all my life.

OTHER CONS INCLUDE:
1.The school districts are TERRIBLE on BOTH sides of the stateline (in boh Missouri & Kansas)
2.The roads are ridiculously bad and damage your vehicles
3. The salaries offered in comparison to other cities for the similar positions are a joke

Matter of fact, I am in the process of moving out of Kansas City to New York city for school, which may be just as dangerous as any other city to but offers way more opportunities and is best for the field I am entering.

However, if you do choose to come here despite of my testimonial, the perks for you may be that:

1. You can get some really nice restate property at a very reasonable price
2. The cost of living is very low
3. The winters are usually mild (without much snow, but are really cold) & the summers are nice but usually have the potential of being really hot and humid (if you like that sort of thing)
4. The Downtown, Crown Center, Plaza & Westport area offer a wide variety of activites

Other than that,

STAY AWAY FROM HERE SERIOUSLY & RETHINK YOUR CHOICE OF CITIES TO RESIDE IN

BTW
Wichita, KS, Lee's Summit MO, Grandview MO , Gladstone MO, Belton MO, Raymore MO, Raytown, MO, Shawnee KS, Overland Park KS , Lenexa KS, & Merriam KS...ALL THESE PLACES ARE OVER RATED AND SUCK JUST AS MUCH AS KANSAS CITY DOES

Middle class immigrants who aren't UMKC students typically live in suburban Johnson County, KS, specifically in Overland Park, KS.

Poor and working-class immigrants typically live in Kansas City, MO's urban Northeast neighborhood.

You'll want to avoid the Missouri suburbs. They are small town-ish and kind of redneck. You'll also probably want to avoid Kansas City, KS because even though it has diversity (it's about evenly white, Hispanic, and black), it's a very "country" type place and doesn't seem very open to immigrants other than Hispanics. Although, KCK does have a significant Hmong population.

KC is a beautiful place to live. It used to have (when I lived there back in 88-89) more fountains than any other city besides Rome. The weather is pleasant, lots to do and great places to eat. If this is a possibility, I would say go for it.
Another suggestion would be St Louis ( lived there too) (liked it even better !)

Pros about living in Kansas City:
-It's cheap and affordable.
-Cost of living is low
-Affordable real estate
-Traffic even at its worst during rush hour, isn't too bad at all compared to other cities
-Can pretty much drive anywhere within the KC metro area within 40 minutes
-Easy access to downtown and suburbs

Cons about living in Kansas City
-Unappealing weather (winters are generally mild but are long and are not mild enough to enjoy. Kansas City area is too flat for skiing and other winter activities and roads can be dangerous during this time, summers are very hot, there are very few nice spring days without tornado warnings)
-Crime going up each year, a lot of areas in and around Kansas City are not safe and are getting worse. Also some areas are very trashy an run down.
-You cannot rely on public transportation and will need a car to get anywhere really.
-Odd mix of conservative and liberal people with few transplants. It can be cliquish and hard to meet good friends. The best friends I've met during my time living in Kansas City were people who were not from there originally.
-It is flat and besides a dirty river that runs through, it is landlocked. There are no mountains, oceans, etc.
-There are some fun things to do in KC (sports teams, museums, etc) but you can pretty much pack them all into one weekends stay. Then what? Living in KC can be dull at times. I found myself traveling a whole bunch when I lived there because of lack of things to do and lack of scenery. Sometimes you just want to see the mountains, ocean, lakes, big city skylines, etc.

kansas city has nothing to offer. it is a boring place with nothing going on. crime is high in the city and the burbs are boring. the dating scene is horrible. johnson county has nothing to offer besides snobby attitudes. its incredibly boring too. move elsewhere.
