A LAWYER is a person qualified to give legal advice; who advises clients in legal matters.
Some lawyers represent clients in courts of law and in other forms of dispute resolution, they are called ATTORNEYs.

In common usage the words are interchangeable. Technically, however, an attorney is someone (usually, but not necessarily, a lawyer) empowered to act for another.

A lawyer makes and establishes the Law in the parlement as like as the Senators.

Attorney defends someone's right in a court.

In spoken language the Americans mix both of them and use them as the same word and meaning.

All it means is that the lawyer has chosen a specialty. Like a defense attorney can be a lawyer for anything, but her/his specialty is in definsive law. I hope this answers your question accurately! Good luck.

a lawyer is someone you choose, an attorney is someone who is appointed to you, if you can't afford a lawyer. Usually if you go on trial you are given an attorney.

Lawyer

A person, who through a regular program of study, is learned in legal matters and has been licensed to practice his or her profession. Any qualified person who prosecutes or defends causes in courts of record or other judicial tribunals of the United States, or of any of the states, or who renders legal advice or assistance in relation to any cause or matter.

Attorney

An alternate word for lawyer, barrister or solicitor, used mostly in the United States. A person that has been trained in the law and that has been certified to give legal advice or represent others in litigation.

No difference....but you knew that, didn't you?

The Same thing.
Maybe you meant to ask "what is the difference between a Barrister and a Solicitor?"
