I have a 4 month old son and i need to change his bottles to the bigger size which i am soaking in hot soapy water now. When he was a newborn, i steralized the bottles once before i used them but now that is he older and i need to switch sizes, I think it is o.k. to just soak them all day then use them. what do other people think?

as tempting as that may sound to not have to sterilize them....I would still sterilize them. You see he is still using the bottles just as much despite the size change. Bacteria is still created and can build up. You will start to see the build up of mold to certain plastics. Then you will wonder why he is getting sick. You will be feeding him back the bacteria still on the nipples. Keep sterilizing the bottles. He has not gotten much as far as an immune system yet. I know it is a hassle, but it is well worth saving yourself the doctor visits.

I must be a bad mom, i never steralized my bottles, just took em outta the boxes (avent brand), rinsed em off and used them. But nothing has seemed to happen since i didn't do it.

Put them in the dishwasher. That will clean them sufficiently. We did that with our second child. They make a small basket that you can buy in the baby section to put the nipples and lids in the dishwasher, so they won't go everywhere. Works great.

i always thought you had to sterilize them after each use up until 6mths. I'd play it safe and sterilize them each time.
