Ooh, I love games. Okay, sports means outdoor games, so here we go.
Capture the flag: A classic favorite, a flag at either end of a large playing area. it's divided in half, and the teams try to run to the enemy side, grab the flag, and return to their side without being tagged. If they are tagged, they go to a designated jail area until a teammate can come and free them. Game ends when one team captures the flag.
Kings and Queens: Capture the flag, except this time it is a person that is the flag, and the other team is trying to tag them to end the game.
Ninja and Samurai: Classic hide and seek with a twist. The people hiding (ninjas)try to sneak up and tag the person seeking(samurai) while the seeker must point them out and say their name in order to get them out of the game. Game ends when either all ninjas are found or the samurai is tagged.
Pillow fight: Hey, they are fun. Last one standing wins.
Counter-strike: There is a flag of some weight that could be thrown (such as a plastic baton or other such thing). It starts at the opposite end of the playing field from the players. They all rush to get it and bring it back to the starting line. Once a player has picked it up, everyone else tries to tag that player. If the flag carrier is tagged before reaching the starting line, he or she must throw the flag behind them and over their shoulder (it lands wherever, it does not get taken back to it's beginning position, and is immediately available to be grabbed by another player), and then run back to the starting line. Once they have crossed the starting line, they may re-enter the game. Game ends when one person has successfully carried the flag across the starting line.
Five around a can: five people grab onto a rope tied into a large circle. (or however many you want). A large trash can is placed in the center. When the game starts, everyone tugs on the rope, trying to force other people to touch the can while avoiding touching the can themselves. When a person touches the can or loses hold of the rope, the round is over and that person is out. Reset with remaining players and go again. Game ends when all but one person has been eliminated.
These are a few I have played with youth groups and day cares in the past, always fun. Hope you enjoy it! Have fun at the party!
