12 better NOT be. That'd be pretty ridiculous for the average female size to be a plus size. I have always thought that above 18 is where the plus sizes start. When you see a "W" after the size, that tells you it is plus.

When you are shopping for clothes plus sizes are considered any size larger than what the store carries. For example, the Gap considers plus sizes to be more than an XL or size 16 because that's as high as it goes in the store. I believe they carry more sizes online and that's their plus size selection. However, if you go to Lane Bryant, which is a store that targets plus-sized women, it has sizes starting at 14, I believe, and I don't know where it stops.
I hope this helps but I think there is a margin for error with what starts as a plus size.

Generally 16 is considered plus size but it depends on the stores you go to some times 14 is considered plus. I have never seen a time when 12 was plus though

Some places like Lane Bryant are starting to carry size 12 but I was under the impression that 14 was the beginning of the plus sizes.

In the fashion industry Plus sized starts with 16 and goes up from there. Here is a scary thought, I was watching one of the teen programs where they display clothes for the fall and they stated that plus size was a 12! Also another tidbit. Marylin Monroe biggest sex icon as of yet was a size 14.

It is of a more generous proportion than a regular size 14 but that is the size our local plus size shops start at.
I know this because I have been a size 14 but a regular. I tried on the 14s in this shop and found it had a bigger cut.
It's called 14+ and could be likened to a 16.
Size 12 is not fat!!!!!!

It really depends on the store or the brand of clothing, but generally plus size starts anywhere between 14 and 18.

i have always been a big girl, and i was always under the impression that 14 starts plus sizes. yes the stores are starting to carry 12, but i think that is just because they feel they are missing out on the major market. the average size of a female is 12.

In a clothing store, plus size starts at 18. If you are above a size 16, your clothes are in the plus size section

Most regular sizes end at 18 and then the plus sizes start at 18W. Then they charge twice as much for a inch more fabric.
OMG! Do this many people really think 12 is a plus size? How insulting.
