Merida! It's in the Yucatan peninsula. It's just a nice little town with tons of great souveniers and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Cancun is nice, but it's soooo Americanized!

to tough of a question. My favorite places are:
Villahermosa Tabasco. Large city, archiological musiem, huge park and fruit farms all around. It is not as americanized as most large cities, but it still has a mall and a wallmart. The best thing about it is the food. 7 different types of bananas are grown in that aria, along with pinaple and citrus fruits. Even fruits that are not seen in the states such as guanabana.
Just be warned that hte weather is vary hot and humid. Before the city was built, it was a swamp. Now It is still humid, but the ground is dry. reaches about 110 degrees with no wind.

Mexico City. You'll never get bored, there's always something to see or do, there's amazing museums, restaurants, markets, ruins, etc. all in the area. Plus, it's not as expensive as other places like Cancun! Cancun is like a piece of the USA, except it happens to be attached to Mexico.

Depends on what you want to see. Tulum is nice (for the ruins), so was Progreso a few years ago. It was a recently opened port and wasn't too americanized yet. If you want to see a lot of places in Mexico, try taking a cruise with several stops. Good luck and have fun.

depends on what experience u want. If u want the American tourist experience where every one speaks English and parties, then go to a beach resort in puerto vallarta or cancun. But if u want to get the feel of the country and our people i would recommend oaxaca and chiapas. Let me know what u decide and i will let u know of cool inexpensice hostels u can stay in. Happy travels :)

MEXICO CITY!!! definately. there is always something to do! there are many markets and beautiful art work sold. there are museums. the Zocalo in Mexico City, which is absolutely amazing on sept. 15. (mexican independence day). even if it's not the 15th it's filled with so much color and people! the people are very friendly. i love going to the Zocalo!!! u can also go to the Basilica in Mexico City. it's very huge there. so many food stands and arts to buy! just be careful if your a tourist. your safety is very important and u don't wanna stand out. don't wear shorts in Mexico City because it says straight out," i'm a tourist"

I second the Mazatlan choice. I spent two weeks there and can't wait to get back there. I felt more free there than I do in the States.
