When American celebrities like Madonna, Gwyneth paltrow, and others act like they're brittish or english when they're not, does that annoy brittish/ English people? Just wondering. Also, is Sienna Miller really English/ Brittish b/c I heard she's actually American but she seems to have an accent. or is she half?

It annoys me when americans try to imitate cockney accents, or assume that is the way we speak
the most ignorant american I have met (so far ... lol) asked me if I knew/was related to the Queen and was surprised and disappointed to find that I didn't sound cockney or posh despite the fact that I live near London. The fact that I refused to intersperse my speech with phrases along the lines of 'great scott!' or 'oh i say!' was apparantly the final nail in the coffin for him and he drifted away muttering that I must be thick if I couldn't speak proper english

If they want to come and live in good-old Blighty, that's their choice. A priviledge of wealth I guess. But I would say to them: Don't try and imitate us by trying to adopt a pseudo-English accent. That would be so patronising and offensive. Just be yourselves. When I come across the miles for a holiday in the good-old U S of A, I don't dress up like a Yankee and try to sound like one of them, I go with the flow and join in. When in Rome, do like the Romans.

Not at all. They are the most environmentally friendly, uncondescending, geographically knowledgeable people in the world. The American Dream? It's the World's nightmare. Get a life and give the rest of the world a break. Oxygen thieves.

Yeah, their OK

no, it's just an accent. I do get confused sometimes though when I get try to tell if someone is American or British, it's obvious with some people but with others I get all in a muddle!

I think there are plenty talented actors/actresses with the correct accent without making Americans sound English & vice versa.
Sometimes it comes accross okay but others it just makes me cringe.
