It's big news when a televangelist gets caught "in flagrante delecto". We feel that people should practice what they preach, especially those who presume to condemn others for their misdeeds.

Maybe this is a case for humility and forgiveness, and a reassessment of what we can expect from our religious and other leaders.

I have heard it said that children make hypocrites of us all. We find ourselves asking them to do things that we cannot do ourselves. In such cases we should acknowledge our weaknesses, so that our children can know that we all struggle with our ideals.

What makes this dichotomy intolerable is when flagrant violators condemn others for the same actions. This is why Jesus said to leave the judgement to God.

Inevitably we will at times find ourselves in a situation where, no matter how firm our resolve to do the right thing, we have to choose between two undesirable outcomes. We have to choose the lesser evil, and then face the criticism of others who could not understand all the things that led to the decision. Our only comfort will be that things could have been worse.

I am positive that people stand up and preach morals and ethics because in their crazy minds it makes them believe that they are doing good. To them, it doesn't matter if they go home and lie to people or screw people over because they know what is moral and other people believe their horse crap and think that they are moral as well. This would be the classic case of a "born again". Most likely, the "born again", was doing anything in the realm of prostitution, drug use, murder, stealing, or any other bad thing that people can get addicted to. This is simply thier new drug, and they do it at such an intense rate that it almost seems weird. So, most people who preach something do not practice it, because they can't. Their life is so ****** up that they have twisted themselves into thinking that they are good.

Here is an example:
My boss is a self-ordained Baptist minister. Yes, a self-ordained Baptist minister. He runs a church here in town and all of his little followers think that he walks on water. They fail to see him in the office and warehouse where he is telling us to put weights inside of crates that we are selling so that the buyer pays more for the crap that they are getting. He justifies this by saying that the buyer would screw him over if he had the chance, so he was going to get at the buyer first. He has also made statements about bad business deals by laughing and saying "If I wasn't such a good Christian, I would have had that guy killed a long time ago."

Now, this is a guy who used to smoke crack and as I have recently found out, used to let his older son have sex with his younger daughter. This is a man that makes his 60 year old wife do all of the manual labor on their farm while he sits down and writes his speech for the next church service he is giving. I don't even know where I am going with this but I know that I'm pissed off at people like this. They are the reasons that we have problems in the world. They suck.

Thes people of whom you are talking about are merely stating the ideals, goals to be strived for. If they don't reach those goals for themselves, that doesn't mean that the goals are wrong or that they are wrong for stressing them. What it means is that these goals may be difficult to attain, and those who do attain them should rejoice in teir accomplishments. Do you have to compromise? No. Can you fail? Of course. Can you succeed? Only time will tell. As for me. I don't know. I don't give thought to failure, only effort. I feel I have time left on the clock. I don't set out to do wrong and that limits my ill feelings. I also seem to accept more than I might otherwise of what are the possibilities of life. Does that make be moral? I have morals. They may notbe your morals, but; I think so. I think I practice what I preach.

There are many hipocrites, but for every 1 of them there are 9 sincere people of integrity. We don't have to comprimise to live in this world - and we'd better not because we're not of this world. sin causes fear and fear causes conformity, conformity to the world is compromise. I'm a Christian social non-conformist like Paul in the bible and I rile at the idea of compromise. God always deals with me expressly about everything I preach way ahead of time before I preach it.

I talk and preach about moral values, and then I mess up, and then I realize I did wrong repent and recieve forgiveness, then (hopefully a different one) I sin again and the beat goes on,
Grace is a state of being not a singular act. Keep asking questions.
Good Luck and God Bless

i preach to adults and children alike in my church, and i can tell you that personally, i try my best, to practice what i preach. now nobody is perfect, nor should they claim to be, and i am the first to admit, that there are times that i stuff up. i do something that is contrary to what i stand for and teach... but i make an effort, and purpose in my heart each day to truly be a DO'er of what i preach, of what Jesus preaches.

its true, not all preachers practice what they preach, and its sad. but you cannot speak for all of us. i, am one that doesnt fit into your criteria of a "podium speaker".

i do not compromise... unless what i thought was right, turns out to be wrong. i can be corrected.

God bless you and your walk in seeking Genuineity.

We need ideologies and principles and theories to guide us. They are not perfect guides to life. At times we must break the rules. People who are inflexible, conservative and close minded have the most trouble with life because anything that does not fit into their little book on life dismays them. And so the point is that we need values and principles but they don't always work. And additionally some peoples values and ethics suck anyway.

You ask a challenging question for all Pastors to answer. I will try to give you an answer that will satisfy you. Please remember that ministers are human just like anyone else. We do make mistakes. There are many false teachers in the pulpit, however. There are men and women who deliberately mislead people for the purposes of getting money and power and notoriety. This is unfortunate because God's word is precious and the position of Pastor is truly next to God's heart. As a point of information I would like to let you know that all minister---even the bad ones---are under constant spiritual attack by the devil. Satan hates Jesus and wants to destroy him and all fo God's creation. Some ministers are weak and some ministers are strong. the weak listen to the devil and do his bidding, but the strong resist him and fight the good fight. A minister spends more time in spiritual warfare than anything else because the devil never lets up: he carries on his assault 24/7, and he does so through psychological means as well as using people. It is my suggestion to you that you concentrate on the good that Pastors do and give them your utmost support. Running from church to church to find a perfect place is futile---there is no perfect church because there are no perfect people, and after all, it is people under the Godhead of Jesus Christ that make up the Christian churches. Jesus loves you. God bless you always.

First, I think "never" is unfair and a fallacy. There are many who do "practice what they preach" but there are also many people who do not.

I believe that ideals are often difficult to live up to, but they should remain our goal, but it does that a lot of compromise to live.

People should admit their own fallibility and not set themselves up as moral pradigms. It only makes their fall that much farther.

Some of the loudest people who preach morals to others are the same who have the most immoral action. By focusing on others sins, they can ignore the "shortcuts" they take in their own daily life. There is no cure for these hypocrites; your best bet is to avoid them.
