It would help to narrow it down some. Having the name of the person is a start. If they were buried in California you could check internment records at the site below, but you would need to know where in California they were buried.
If it was an accident it might be in the archives of the local paper, but once again you need to know where in California it happened.
Do you have anymore information than what you gave us?

You can go to your city hall of records and check out the death certificates. Or you can go to your local library and check out the newspapers around the time the person died to see if the info is in their obituary. Old newspapers are usually on microfiche. Aside from all that you could call all the local cemeteries and ask if the person is buried there. I am not sure if they will disclose this info though. Good luck.

I believe you would have to get the death certificate which would tell the cometary. Then you would contact them to find the plot. I'm not 100% sure on that but it's what I'vea been told so you could always give it a try. Good luck!

THERE SHOULD BE A DATA BASE IN WHERE YOU CAN LOOK UP CEMETERIES IN CALIFORNIA, EACH CEMETERY HAS ITS OWN LIST OF WHO IS BURIED THERE. YOU MAY HAVE TO CALL, I KNOW THIS BECAUSE OF RESEARCHING MY ANCESTORS

findagrave.com

Find the graves of ancestors, create virtual memorials, add 'virtual flowers' and a note to a loved one's grave, etc.
