I have some real blood sugar issues. I will start to shake, feel weak, etc. What's causing this? Does anyone else suffer with this issue also? Eating helps, but it's only temporary. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you

OK...if you have low blood sugar, it's not going to happen "just before, during and after my period". It will be constant...is that what you mean??

Hypoglycemia can be controlled with a very easy fix. Make sure you lay off the junk foods and concentrate on whole grains, fruits veggies, and lo-fat proteins. Split up your meals to several small meals a day instead of 3 large ones. That would mean having a snack of a protein (like peanut butter) and crackers; or fruit, or a piece of cheese between meals to keep you sugar on a constant level. You can also drink some fruit juice. You don't want to load up on carbs or candy if you have low blood sugar. You'll just "crash" again.

Get some blood work done at the doc's office. Good luck.

I have hypoglycemia, which is kind the opposite of diabetes (protein is my stabilizer). Your homones will fluctuate wildly about a week to 10 days prior to your cycle. If the hormones are affecting your blood sugar levels, talk to your doctor. Keep a calendar carefully noting your symptoms (if you are diabetic, the testing levels too), and what you ate each day. This will help when you talk to your doctor. Here are a couple of good websites:
www.4woman.gov and www.girlshealth.gov.

Keeping your eating schedule on a regular time basis will help. Drinking a lot of water or other non-sugared drinks will help with fluid loss once your cycle starts.

Good luck!

Have you been tested for Diabetes? How is your diet? Do you eat regularly? Sometimes your period can take a lot of your system. Eating regular meals and making an appointment to see your primary Dr for some routine bloodwork may be the answer. At least with the bloodwork, the Dr will be able to see if you are diabetic or have other things that may need some attention.

You may be a diabetic. Your hormones that change during your cycle may be contributing to a lack or surplus of glucose in your blood. A doc may perscribe some insulin or just a blood sugar monitor for you to use and help curb these issues.

The unbalancing of hormones which causes the unbalancing of sugar level during your period, try drinking some glucose with water, and have lots of calcium and iron intake during this period.
