Well, first you will need to decide where you want to live and work. If you want to buy a house or rent for a little while first until you get to know the area. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job, it is affordable housing that will be challenging. But, coming from the Bay Area, you probably will find it a little less expensive here. Since you don't say what type of social activities or religion you are interested in, I'd say go onto San Diego Insider to run a search of your areas of interest.

As a matter of where to focus your efforts, north county and the far south county are experiencing explosive growth. A lot of new home developments are being built and you will find family oriented, safe neighborhoods. Downtown is becoming a real attraction to 50 and above residents. There is a lot of condo conversions going on in north county where you can still find affordable places to buy.

Moving to San Diego - i am assuming that you have already found a place to live in San Diego, but please correct me if i am wrong.

As for jobs, there are lots of job listings to be found on the usual national job sites, like monster and jobsummit. In addition, the San Diego Union Tribune (daily newspaper) has a good site with local job listings at www.signonsandiego.com

As for churches, probably the best place to start is looking in your community for the denomination of church that fits you and your wife best. The yahoo yellow pages might be a good place to search by location and denomination. see link:

And for social activities - that really depends on what you like to do. One good place to start is the weekly free newspaper, the San Diego Reader. It comes out every Thursday and has lots of event listings for concerts, films, plays, public lectures, book signings, hikes, festivals, etc. You can check it out online at www.sdreader.com

By all means enjoy the beaches! People tend to be very friendly in Diego and I am sure you will just love it! There is always something to do, just go to the local San Diego websight. Look on Monster or CareerBuilder for jobs. Good luck to you!
