I have been diagnosed with a spinal cyst and my doctor says I may need surgery. My husband is against the surgery because his idiot friend said it is unnessecary. (As if because he runs the MRI machine he now has a docterate degree) I could be paralyzed either way but I have never had a good surgery scenario in my life. Something always goes wrong! I am so terrified that I can't sleep at night or even think of anything else. Please advise... THANKS

Have the surgery !!!!!!! what you need to do though is go to a colon and rectal surgeon if it's the same kind of cyst i had... I had a Pilonidal Cyst removed from the base of my spine 7 weeks ago, the surgery was outpatient, and I was home in a few hours, biggest deal was laying on my stomach for a few days, had put up with the stupid thing for 9 years swelling and draining and finally said ENOUGH- i was very worried about it for the "paralyzed" reason(excuse not to have it done) now I'm kicking myself for not having it removed after the first flare-up-
had outer stitches removed after 2 weeks and it was healing well, my incision was very deep so i had more stitches deeper in the wound and doc left them there for about 2 more weeks, i was back on my motorcycle riding all over the place when those things came out, and now after 7 weeks, nothing left but the scar !!! Don't wait any longer than you have to - especially if you are in pain from this, and even if no pain right now, it will flare up, and then OUCH
