I'm from Cleveland, but know a lot of people from Columbus. The one thing they usually say is that though it isn't as exciting or desirable as other cities in the U.S. (or even Ohio like Cleveland and Cincinnati), but they feel it is an excellent place to raise a family. Ohio in general is great because communities are very safe, it lacks natural disasters, it is affordable, has all the four seasons, and has some top rated school districts, universities, hospitals, and cultural institutions. In general people are very friendly and people live a little more tradtional family-oriented lifestyle than in other parts of the country.

By the way, Columbus in particular is doing pretty well economically with creating new jobs, and growing its population. Most people know it for for being home to Ohio State University, the state capital, and its Easton Towne Center.

My friend moved from LA to Columbus just for the sole reason to raise a family.

Any place can be a good place. Instill values in your children, teach them right from wrong, how to respect other people and their space and property.
