I've lived in the north my whole life & really have never thought of visiting the south because I hate bugs and the heat. So many times I've also heard how beautiful it is there & I'd especially like to visit Georgia, but people tell me that roaches down there are like ants up here. That almost everyone has them & it's not a big deal. Well, I'd have to say that I'd freak out & be nervous my whole trip if I saw any indoors.............

There are two common types of roaches in the USA. Up North you can find the German Cockroach. These are small brown and usually associated with unclean places altho they often are bought into clean houses in corugated boxes. They are easily kept under control with Combat brand Roach cups.
Down south there is also a type called a palmetto bug. These can be up to 2" long and you should not see them indoors unless a place is dirty. They are more afraid of you than you are of them and are considered by Issan people to be a crunchy snack when roasted.
I travel in the South every year and have not seen one of these big roaches indoors since 1958.

Yes, there are roaches everywhere. The good news is that in the south (I've lived in Texas and Tennessee) they are predominantly an outdoor bug. Some get inside the houses but, with air conditioning and cleanliness, most roaches prefer to live outside because they are more comfortable and can find more food there.

Roaches live in every type of environment, I've lived in the south and up north, there's roaches everywhere, it has a lot to do with how clean a person keeps their house.

I know down south they have flying cockroaches. I am totally afraid of bugs. I have visited the south(i'm from PA) and didn't come across a problem with bugs indoors.

New York city is overwhelmed with cockroaches, among other things. Las Vegas has them too, and I saw some in a motel in California. I don't think there is anywhere you can go to escape them--you just need to keep your house "roach-proof" at all times.

As far as I know, cockroaches live everywhere. The only thing we might have more of in the South is mosquitoes. Those things will eat you alive!

You may not wish to believe this, but cockroaches can be found in just about any region of the world, including many North American homes:(

Personally I've never been any farther south the PA. but bugs are bugs anywhere. I've been told about the bugs in the south. They are bigger granted. Thats because it's tropical for the most part. And that's the deterrent for me. HUMIDITY...Worse than the bugs. They can keep it.....(~:~)
