The gameboy advance was originally invented in the year of 1999, under the codename Project Atlantis. The console was originally going to look a lot like the original gameboy but due to time restrictions and the boom in handheld technology nintendo scrapped the plan. Nintendo had planned to add many things to the new gameboy console such as motion sensors. Many people have also had ideas that nintendo planned to add touch screen capabilities to the gameboy advance. As many people know this didnt happen and the console with these features was introduced under the name of the nintendo ds. Many people have assumed that the gameboy advansce was a succesor to the original gameboy when infact it was the succesor to the gameboy colour. The gameboy advance was so succesfull it rejuvenated the handheld market and in the early months of 2003 nintendo upgraded the line of the gameboy advance to the popular gameboy advance sp.
