I always wondered how the Canadians, English, and Aussies felt about these royal matters. Now I know.

I never understood why you guys celebrate the Queens birthday...hell, i live in England and were either apathetic or mildly dis-interested. I suppose you guys (aussies) celebrate it because your still a commonwealth nation, still have the queen as your head of state and have only really recently been a fully independant country (since after the second world war). Its just a case of tradition

Just part of traditins I guess. Here in America we have Presidents day. I think precious few really celebrate, it is just a day off work with good sales to go to!

Perhaps if you read a book, you'll "get" why certain historical figures have their own holidays.
