Did you enter a contest sponsored by Microsoft. If so, the message could be legitimate. If you haven't submitted a contest entry, you're getting scammed.

Another way to check the validity of mailings like these is to visit a site that reports on so called, urban legends. Here's what they say about an email making the rounds about receiving a $1,000 bill from Microsoft: http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/nothing/billgate.asp

The operative rule is that you can't get something for nothing. The corollary is, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't true. OK?

"some prize"? That really sounds tempting.

If it were a cash prize, you could even go someplace or share it with somebody.

If it were something being offered, you could definitely use it somewhere.

No, you got what is called "spam". You shouldn't answer the email because if you do you will get many more of these messages.
