I've had that problem before, and bought a phone off of Ebay. Not sure if it is cheap .... but I know it was much cheaper than having to go to my provider and get another phone!

Buy an _unlocked_ phone on eBay so you can use any SIM card that is compatible. You'll want to know your needs before you buy (GSM or CDMA). Check which system your plan uses.

generally speaking the service provider you have will sell you the equipment without a plan - but the plan is what makes the price so low. So....

do NOT go to ebay or a pawn shop. in order to have a cell phone that works, you need a working sim card and two numbers printed on both the card and the battery of the phone. if these numbers are tied to a previous user, your phone will not work.

Go to a cell phone store, telus, bell, sprint, nextel, rogers, whatever, and purchase a PREPAID phone. that way, you only pay for the minutes you use, and you're not attached to a contract or monthly plan/bill.

I'd go to the cellphone place where you got your phone. I know Verizon will replace your phone if it gets messed up for free.
