It's wrong. I agree, it's inconsistent. If you are an adult, then you are an adult, especially if you are old enough to go to war and get killed, then you are old enough to enjoy the benefits the rest of the adults are enjoying. Very unfair law.

The answer is money. Everything about the gov. is motivated by $$$. I believe that 18 should be the "transition age" If you are considered adult at that age and responsible for your own action then have a drink! If you can buy tobacco, die in war, go to prison, and hundreds of others then why not alcohol. BUT on the flip side wait a minute kids, I don't think anyone should have a drivers license until 18 either. That comes with a much greater responsibility.
I am also going with the current age of 18. It may need to be 21 or even 25 but it all should permitted when society gives your the adult status.

Usually the public votes on what they think is the legal age limit. States and Counties do the same, but they can't overide the national vote by making it younger, only older.. Sorta like learning how to ride a bike. Some get to start off with a tricycle, then graduate to a Bike with training wheels, then the Bike without training wheels, then a ten speed, sometimes on to a motorcycle. They are different levels of responsibility and critical thinking.
You do have a good point though. I still choke on the military thing. Dying for your country, but can't drink beer.
Disneyland considers you an adult at age 12, and charges accordingly. Go figure.

because the people who make the laws are so old that they need not consider any form of logic when creating them because they are unlikely to effect them in any way shape or form
what annoys me is that at 17 it is legal for me to have a family, including a husband and child, i could have my own accomodation, smoke, play the lottery, hold a job and drive a car...but i cant drink or see certain films
ultimately i can live an entirely adult life and yet i cannot legally drink or watch a film that is potentially a little bit scary!....?

Rookie adult, like having P plates or L plates on a car.
And sometimes those things are better when you have had practice at being a grown up as may be extra dangerous... Though sometimes its just the lawmakers are over zealous and unrealistic

Brain development is more complete at 21, so alcohol won't have as severe negative effects. Also, teenagers don't have the decision-making part of their brain as fully developed, so they can't always make smart decisions about alcohol and other matters. I don't agree with the law, but that's the reasoning.

Your an adult when you actually mature enough to be an adult some people never do! Though i agree it seems silly, its more of a maturity thing!
