I have a dwarf Netherslnds rabbit that licks the scratches mostly on my arm. She seems to try deliberatly nip off any dried blood that is there. I have allergies and scratch alot (just for information sake). It is not a really big deal to me. I'd just like to know if there is a reason for it.

I think it is typical animal reflex to lick at wounds. My dogs will lick at cuts if I have them... they're trying to help and tell you how much they love you!

Most likely rabbits like bats have in there saliva a chemical where they can eventually open wounds and at the same time close the wound with their saliva. A bat that feeds on blood here in Central America has the ability of opening a wound but at the same time of closing the wound he caused to the animal with some saliva.
I assume that is the case with your rabbit.

Rabbits like a salty taste, which she is getting from the blood and sweat on your skin. Maybe you could go to a pet store and get a salt block designed for rabbits and other small animals.

This is natural for them. Their spit helps them heal their own wounds and she is treating you like you are a rabbit too. I suggest you cover your arm with a towel before holding it. This will keep her from licking your wounds, scratching you more and contacting your skin with a potential allergen.

The animals spit may work for them but might put bacteria into your wounds..so do not allow this to continue.

Rabbits are naturally attracted to the smell and taste of blood. This is why they often bite as well. If they were more predatory animals, rather than prey, they would be omnivores or perhaps even straight carnivores...

It probably tastes salty and good to the rabbit. Be careful not to get your scratches infected, you never know what is in the rabbit's saliva or where its' mouth has been.

Rabbits like the taste of salt. Sweaty hands will have a salty taste and blood also has a salty taste to it.
