I knew Australia will beat Japan because of Hiddink, who coached Korea in 2002 and led them to semifinal round. That's how strong Hiddink is!

I really knew that Australia would beat Japan because i prayed to Jesus in the last 8 minutes and got couraged . And soccoroo team had many point in shooting. Also Australia would have beaten Japan by 6 score if George Kenedy and number 15 who was just score the last kick were in the first half of the march.

Well~ i think in terms of today's game, Hiddink is so critical in fact. U see the Australian coach made three critical decisions, that means the three changes, these changes were made in the right time! You know right changes are very important is big matches.

on the other hand, you see the refuse(Zico) I really don't know what the hell he was thinking!
as everyone knows that the Japanese fitness was the weakest link of them, in fact, during 60 to 70 minutes, japan become much more slow and are not powerful, they do not have power to support their running, tackling or shooting, you can see Nakata and Nakamura, they just pass and stand, so they are not so well, however, different from Hiddink, Zico use Ono for Yanagesawa, I really don't understand!!!
Yanagesawa was very fast and can post more threat to the defence of the Australian than the Takahara!!!! ans Alex was down because of his fitness problem, and he was too attacking in mind! If i am Zico, i will use Koji Nakata for Alex in 70 minutes, as K.Nakata was a left foot player, he can play the role of the left full-back, and he is also very tall and he can help the team to defence the air attack!!
If use Ono, i will order H.Nakata off the pitch or takahara, it is a better way to defence.

It took 84 minutes for the Australians to score their first goal in World Cup. It was a thrilling moment. Poor Kawaguchi. He had a good game until Cahill broke the deadlock. Fantastic substitution by Hiddink at half time. Cahill, Keneddy and John Aloise made the difference.

How lucky Australians having Hiddink as thier coach

Everyone seems to be saying Hiddink is responisible for this win? He made some good changes in the 2nd half, but frankly he got it wrong in the 1st. He had Kewell and Emerton in positions they never play. And there was too much pressure placed on Viduka to score. Granted Australia won because of the changes Hiddink made, but Japan would have never been ahead had Hiddink made the right decisions in the 1st half.

I'm not that surprised that Australia beat Japan. Due to the the fact that either zero or one Oceanian team is allowed at the World Cup, Australia have struggled to qualify, despite being a good side. This is the first time since 1974 I think that Oz have been at the World Cup finals.

I think that after the World Cup, Australia will be part of the Asian Football Confederation instead of the Oceania Football Confederation, which is good because the AFC will give Oz the competition that they just ain't getting in their home continent (Australia seem to win most of their game against Oceanian opposition comfortably).

yeah i know what u mean that guy Guus Hiddink surely changes the side's fortune when he begins to coach them
but i waz not surprised by the result as Australia were the better of the two sides with players like Cahill,Viduka and Kewell
though i had expected some resilience from japan considering they are they the no.1 side in Asia and being coached by Zico
nonetheless kudos to Australia for winning 3-1

Although Hiddink is a great coach with illustrious achievement, I was still not sure that he could turn over the game after Japan leading for 70 minutes, however, he did that way, unbelievable, honestly,I felt a bit sad for Japan,as I did for Iran a day ago.

I am with some of the guys. Its the players that make him great. I am just happy that Australia finally gave Harry some help. But Cahill was lucky to be still on the pitch after that stud tackle he made inside the box to Camano i think his name was. Tackling a player without making contact with the ball. I dont think the result was ever in doubt after that first goal. the Aussies did what they do best? Dominate physically. You gotta love the face after the fouls, what.. i bearly hacked him. Come on guys, dont become one of those teams.

Its a not a freak goal. It happens a lot. The defenders ran into eachother and nudged the Japanese strikers. Everyone was sloppy so it was amazing that there were 4 goals. I am soo happy that Aussies won. Over here in Tokyo, they were saying they were going to contain Brazil and send Croatia packing. If Japan won, It would be like Pat Cash going on and on and on about".. The time I won Wimbledon" but there would be 128 million people saying it.

Wow what a game that was. I don't think anybody could've predicted this outcome. I think most people thought Japan would win. Australia definitely had the odds against them. That was some great upset!!! I wasn't sure who to cheer for at first 'cause I wasn't a fan of either teams but Australia made me cheer for them. They were so good and the end of the game went with a bang!!! Good for them. So far this World Cup is already very exciting.

When you see goals like these it really is a BEAUTIFUL game!!!

Yes, of course I was surprised. As we all were, whether we'll admit it or not. That was a horrible call that Japan got lucky with, but they should've been able to hold on to the lead. The Japanese had eight men packed around their own goal and the Aussies' offense was subpar. Kawaguchi had some expert goalkeeping. The Aussie first goal was 80% luck; loose ball, both teams screening the keeper and Cahill managed to get his foot on it. After that, the Japanese got sloppy, got desperate, played their team too far forward, let plays happen that shouldn't have.

If you asked me before the game i wouldnt have been too surprised. But wow. Australia were really mediocre for 84 minutes. Japan had many great chances off counter attacks and were a whole lot more comfortable with the ball against a really listess Aussie side and should have put it out of reach sooner.
