I'm 13 and I've had my period for about 2 and 1/2 years. I've never liked pads, but now that I'm more active in sports, I really need them. How do I tell my mom?

I think that you are probably more mature than your own mother! Choose a time when you are alone and she is in a good mood. Talk to her as an informed adult - not a whiny child. Start by telling her that you know how hard this is to talk about, but she's your mom and you realy value her opinion. Tell her that you are interested in trying tampons because of the sports that you do and ask her if she can get you a box to try. Tell her that you have read about using them and have talked to some friends and that you are ready to try.
Good luck!

does your mom use them? if so use hers. if not just tell her that you would like to try tampons next month instead of pads. and i agree, i never liked pads either. i started using tampons when i was about your age and that is all i use. I've used them for about 12 years now, the only thing is you have to change them often. you bo not want to chance infection, it could be deadly!!

These are the type of things that you just need to be honest about. I never had good communication with my mom either. But you just need to tell her that because of your activities you would really prefer tampons. If you do not tell her how will she know?

Does she buy the pads for you? Why dont you sit down with her and ask her what kind of tampons are good for someone your age? She'll probably be thrilled that you came to her. Why do you hardly talk to her??

just try to explain to her that you need them because you very active in sports and pads are uncomfortable. Or just try going swimming when you're on your period and tell her you need a tampon....thats what i did.and it surely worked.

Just simply tell her you prefer tampons vs pads.
Let her know they suit your needs better.
You're maturing now, and using tampons is allot cleaner, faster and less noticeable then pads.

I'm sure she'll understand.
Mother can be allot cooler then you think.

just go shopping with er, take her down the tampon aisle and say oh mom, I need some of these, and pop them in the basket. Nothing else is needed, she'll understand, after all, she has been there! lol

Just tell it like that. That you need them for sports, maybe it would help if you show her your bloody clothes from slipped pads

Just tell her. It's not really a big deal actually.
