The season's just started with Alberto & I know a lot of those states have struggled all year with rebuilding. Is the South better prepared?

No I live near New Orleans and the levee system is still being repaired. New Orleans is a sitting duck with little to no defenses. The levee system needed to guard against a category 5 hurricane would take 20 years to complete and it will fall out of favor with politicians as soon as the media stops covering the story. Much of the gulf coast has been destroyed of it's infrastructure mainly large bridges used for evacuation. Many areas here have not even been touched due to the catastrophic damage. It is really worth seeing in person to understand what happens when things go totally wrong.

I certainly hope so. I can only speak for my area. We are getting pelted with rain and wind, but there was not the massive run to Home Depot to get plywood or the like this time. I hope that means that everyone took advantage of the tax free holiday and stocked up early. Florida is doing everything it can on the government level, but some people just never learn.

I've always been prepared via the usual "preperations". But it always takes just one bad storm to wash us all away.

I was in the direct path of Lili in 2002 and also survived Andrew in 1992.

I'll be glad when I am finished college, as i don't plan on sticking around Louisiana anyway.
