Basically before Guus came, the idea was that the Socceroos were a bunch of misfits assembled together.. and that was the team thought. Guus let them know that they were actually a quality side. I mean, almost all the players play for 1st class clubs in Europe at the moment - there would be no reason to feel nervous about being 3rd rate.

This combined with experience as well as the intensive training sessions (much more than what Farina did beforehand) made the socceroos feel more like a team, and work as a team. Good stuff Guus!

Guus Hiddink is a master at his craft and is renowned throughout the soccer world for his abilities. He is very well respected and his reputation for working miracles is legendary.
The Socceroos have to be congratulated for their team effort in downing Japan.
To have a winning team everyone must do their bit if they are to succeed and succeed we did.
What a marvellous win.
All the boys needed to be heartily congratulated.
We also must not get too carried away. We still have a long way to go.
Hail to the mighty Socceroos!!!!!!

Guus is a man filled with tactics but it was the socceroos desire for success that put them there, Guus just guided them.
