scammers they hit me up for some money about a month ago

If they are wanting a partner with a bank account overseas in which to pay in millions of $$$ and for you to take a 25% cut or some similar proposal then of course it is a scam As one answer already says they lost money to the same law firm.
Have a look at "419 Eaters" on the internet. This will open your eyes to the various scams going on.
Be very, very careful.

100% of the e-mail you get from those claiming be a law firm or attorney, and promising huge sums of money, are scams. Nobody is just going to go bulk e-mail on the internet to seek help from total strangers - anybody who believes that deserves to get scammed.

I have had more scam proposals from Nigeria than hot dinners from my wife.
