Yes, we should be able to live out our remaining days in peace without feeling ostracized and judged by our neighbors - and many will. They don't want us living with them anyway, so why should we? And we'll make the place look fabulous!

Sure, there should be choices for us when we get old. My girlfriends parents are always joking about starting a Wiccan/Pagan old folks home since there are plenty of Catholic, Lutheran, or non-denominational nursing homes, but none for the Wiccan/Pagan community.

I don't think that anyone should HAVE to go to a gay nursing home if they don't want to, but it should be an option for them to consider if that is how they want to spend their final days. Especially for older gays who have endured a lifetime of homophobia, I can see how some would like to spend the rest of their life among people who will not harass and judge them.

We all should have as many choices open to us as possible and pick the one that fits for us.

Ultimately, who cares what any of us think? People have the right in this country to choose where they want to live and with whom. If I want to live with a bunch of 68 year old, basket-weaving hippies, I have the right to do it.

If you want a great education about ignorance, search for the news story that Yahoo! posted on this topic today and read the discussion (or the message boards). I simply cannot understand why people choose ignorance, because in this day of easy Internet access to vast quantities of knowledge and information, you actually have to try to be as ignorant as most of the gay-bashing homophobes who posted over there.

Do straight people get to have their own housing complexes, because I'd hate to live by people who don't have sex with the same gender. Eww!

They already do, the same as Baptist seniors and golf playing seniors (one thinks of Boca Tecca in Florida) and every other group of seniors.

And why not?

Sure they should if they will buy into them.

They are opening one in NYC in the Village. I think its a great way for older LGBTQ couples and singles/widowers to live and feel safe in their own enviornment.
