I have a 2003 Saturn VUE. I've owned a Saturn before, a 1991 SL2, and never had a problem with it. My VUE seems to have something wrong with the A/C. When it is on sometimes it works fine, but then it will stop working all of a sudden and start blowing hot air. It also makes the car miss and stutter when stopped, but it will also stutter a little while moving. It has caused the car to stall once. I know I need to take it to be checked out, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a problem like this and if it is fixable. We don't have a lot of money, do you think it would be expensive to fix? Also, I live in the desert and am about to have a baby, so A/C in the car is important.

The engine problems only happen when the A/C is on. As long as it is off, then the car runs like new.

Sounds like you are just low on freon. Only problem is that this is a sealed sytem and it shouldnt leak out unless there is a problem. A simple dye test will reveal where the leak is stemming from, but the repair can be costly depending on where it is at. Take the vehicle in for a leakdown test and an estimate before you pay for any repairs. Being pregnant and living in the desert is not easy for anyone, so i would consider fixing it now before you go further along in carrying your baby. It will only be worse if you dont have cold air. Check to see if the car is still inder warrantee. You have 3 years and 36000 miles. If you fit in this limit, then it is on the dealer. Even if you are close or just over the limit, go to the dealer anyway. i used to be a service writer for GM and we sometimes were able to squeeze a car through under warrantee. Tell them it happened a few months ago when it was still under warantee but due to your condition you were unable to return sooner. Let them see your pregnant, it may help you! Even if you have to complain to the general manager, make a little noise. Buyers dont want to hear complaints!
Good Luck

You may just need to get it charged up. The engine problems sound like an engine problem

It sounds like your car is low on freon - have it re-charged (it's not very expensive) and have your compresser checked
