Don't you think just completely ignoring their question and no one answering it would anger them most and maybe get them to give up with their nonsense? Do you think they are just seeking attention and trying to get a rise out of others? If no one answered them, don't you think they might get bored and go away?

As it's referred to in the forum, RAMO - report abuse and move on. These questions do feed off of the answers, which provide them with inspiration to ask new questions. Maybe they'll run out of ideas if they don't get any answers. Maybe they'll get bored. Either way, there's really no point in trying to answer them. Just report abuse. If they do this consistently, they'll be suspended from Yahoo! Answers.

Sadly, no.

They would just load up and try again.

There really is no good way to get rid of a troll except to let Yahoo know about it and hope they wipe the account out.

The way Answers works, they can't do all that much damage with a new account, and if there are enough of the idiots around, Yahoo will probably discontinue the one time 100 point bonus for joining.

Frankly, I just ignore them myself. There are only so many times you can post "You are an idiot, HA HA HA, HA, HA, HA"

Cheers

Best thing to do is not to answer those question. Then that person has wasted 5 points to post a question but can't even pick a best answer to get 3 points back. Sometimes if I'm really tempted to tell them off, I just message them through the site, instead of answering their question.

Well, what you assume is blatant racism may not be, for one thing. However racist a comment may seem to be, it is important to understand the context of any statement. However, any statement that denigrates any group of people just becuase of their race and for no other reason, this is worthy of one thing: complete and utter disregard. Ignore them. They did not even speak. Don't even wast time on them. If it is truly a racist, they usually jsut want to feed on acrimony and anger and hatred. Pour burning coals on their head by laughing or ignoring them.

It really depends on my mood. Sometimes I lecture them, sometimes I give them sites to check out a blatant fallacy, and sometimes I say something flippant because I think it's funny. I don't think that they would get bored and go away. They're talking to themselves 99% of the time.
Really, more than reasoning with people who wouldn't know reason if it hit them over the head, I try to answer their questions more to show other people who disagree with them that there are alot of us out there who try our best to be responsible, reasonable, and respectful.
I don't want people to think that the world is full of those people. And frankly, there are always a couple of people that agree.

Your focus shouldn't be about angering them because their stupid question or belief angered you. What you should do is take this time to educate those who do not know what is right, polite, or maybe even they grew up with a family living those beliefs and that is all they know. Do not lower yourself to someone elses level. You are above that. Lead by example not by someone elses stupdity.

I always report them, and other than that I agree that ignoring it is best. If no one replied, it would get boring for them pretty quickly.

maybe, but maybe not. some people are so desperate for attention that they'd do anything to get it.

imho it's best to ignore and then report them.

Yes, you have answered your own question. For those that incite violence and hatred or insult people, I report them for abuse and move on.
