Why??? They're all English people care about! here we are obsessed w/ celebrity couples too (Brangelina, TomKat, Spears & Federline) but we care about more than just the lives of two people! What's the deal?

nobody is really that bothered with them anymore, they used to be on the front of all the celebrity mags and now they hardly get a mention.
I think overall people are obsessed with celebs due to the fact it's
escapism and lets us look into a lifestyle that just seems pure fiction but lots of fun : )

Not all English people are obsessed with the Beckhams! However, I think the reason they are popular is because they're glam - English celebs tend to be cool and laidback, but the Beckhams are full on glamour! Football is huge over here so the combination of a pop-star and footballer is too much for us Brits - plus Beckham is extremely easy on the eye! However, they now have some competition in the form of Wayne Rooney (another English footballer) and his girlfriend Collen. Wayne isn't exactly good looking, but Colleen is a very fashionable and always in the mags. We do also love TomKat, Brangelina and Britney, but we have to root for our own home-grown celebs!

I don't think its accurate to say the Beck hams are all we care about, but they are probably the biggest celebrities we have, they're British and so we go mad for them. When they got together they were both celebrities in their own right so it made it a little bit glamorous and brought a some excitement into our drab British lifes.
Like all celebrities they are part media creation and hype. This couple, despite some quirky behaviour, are essentially clean (drug free) and are role models for many young children. However, like all celebrities, the media help to create them and the media is just waiting to pull them to pieces. They've tried once with David's alleged infidelity but it didn't stick.

I am from UK & I don't understand the obsession with celebrities like the Beckhams either.
Okay so he can kick a football around fairly well but she has no talent for anything. She cant sing, dance, act or even speak properly (I heard a recent interview & it was quite frankly embarrassing). the only thing she is famous for now is being married to David & giving her kids wierd names.
Even when she was in the spice girls she was only there as eye-candy.

David Beckham is popular because he is a really good footballer but Victoria is really NOT popular! She isn't a talented singer, which is what she became famous..although she was in a group so her voice was dwarfed by the others! She's stylish and i like her dress sense but not her..she's only famous now for being married to David!
We do care about other things and i'm getting tired of us being generalised as this superficial nation who only care about celebrities..it's not like that at all and it shows how much you know when nearly everyone has answered this question saying they don't like them and couldn't care less about the Beckhams!

they arent the only two celebs that brits have interest in! Although I personally feel that most 'celebrities' are popularised to the point of obsession in this country.
David Beckham is a brilliant footballer
(a real footballer, not what you americans call football. Its similar to 'soccer' but you changed some of OUR rules. Oh and your football? Rugby for wimps thank you very much)
and in the eyes of practically all us brits he is the key to our success ... i know we havent won the world cup in 40 years, but we've got a really strong team this year and we're second favourites to win, after Brazil obviously.
In short, the nations hopes are pinned on this man, so naturally his life is brought into the spotlight

I'm from the UK and I couldn't tell you - I think they're awful.

Please be careful when saying 'they're all english people care about' as although celeb magazines are obsessed, no-one I know is actually remotely interested in the Beckhams..

Victoria is worth than Beckham as at least he's sort of good at something - i.e. football (real football, not rugby with padding as american football is).

do we?....think about all the magazines, papers, tv shows that are based on nothing but celebs, and didn't they annouce the birth of Angelina, and Brad's baby on National Television....even you called them Brangelina, and TomKat....where did that come from? (i'm not trying to a smarta**, i just find it amusing how people become so interested in other people's (celebs) lives, and forget that they are just people too, of course some celebs do their best to remind us that they are special.)

I was born in England and i dont think we really give a shite about Posh and Becks except to laugh at how anal and vain they both are. Really love, just cuz the media say we love them doesnt mean its the truth, we care greatly about many things that arnt related to celebrities at all but the media never report it cuz no-one in the US would want to read about it.

Really, if you lived here you'd realise they're really not that popular. Most people here have lifes and don't really care about the intimate details of what celebs get up to, just like people in America.

It's the media who hound people, not the public.
