It's not only about that, it's also an ego boost when you really help somebody you don't even know, and then you get rewarded for that with electronic points that can't be en-cashed. So I am sure that many would want to emulate Kevin or Jane Furrows or Raju, well they have answered so many Q's and are on the heap.
The personal satisfaction that one gets is more important. Of course to some this more of a game or fun, and maybe that's what is also meant to be.

absolutely.. sometimes I think it's better though because there are things I can't say to myself that I see at Y!Q&A and I'm glad somebody said it first.
