I wouldn't gamble with a home remedy for an eight month old. It's possible that he's experiencing drainage due to a cold or other respiratory illness but there's too many cons (such as permanent loss of hearing) to rely on a home method. Return to his pediatrician for re-evaluation. If he's been on an antibiotic for less than 24 hours, it may need time to kick in. If it's been over, he may have a tolerance to the antibiotic prescribed. Good luck!

I know a few things about chronic ear infections in children so maybe this will help.
It's been suggested that a reduced drainage or blockage in the neck's lymphatic chains causes fluid build-up in the middle ear, making it a prime nesting place for bacteria and viruses. Antibiotics work to kill the bacteria, but don't correct the drainage problem, which is why most children get reoccurring infections.
I would like to recommend chiropractic care as a possible treatment for reoccurring infections (I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out). Most people normally associate chiropractors with "neck and back pain," but the truth is that chiropractors correct spinal misalignment in order to restore function to the Central Nervous System. The CNS controls EVERY BODILY FUNCTION, so if the spine is misaligned and pinching the nerves in the neck, those nerves cannot communicate properly with their corresponding body part (like the middle ear). This is why chiropractic has amazing success in treating chronic ear infections in children (In 1996, a study showed that 93% of the cases of infection improved with chiro care, 75% in 10 days or less, and 43% with only 1 or 2 adjustments).
Chiropractic is healthy, natural, and very safe for children. It is actually recommended that newborns get their spines checked/adjusted shortly after birth because of the tremendous pressure, compression, twisting, etc of the spine during the birthing process. I still recommend taking your child to the doctor to see about this particular infection, to make sure it hasn't gotten worse. Good luck to you.

Give him a bath in the sink. Use warm water sprayer to gently clean out his ear. Don't get too close, though. A hot wet washrag will also work. Don't let him take a bottle of milk when laying down. You may need to switch over to tumbler or sippy cups. Call the Dr. for a different antibiotic. No need to go in again. Rubbing alcohol will also clean out the ear. I use a Q-Tip & dip it in the alcohol. Don't go very far into his ear, though. This will dissolve the wax & kill germs.

Young children seem to have chronic ear infections mostly caused by allergies. What are you feeding him? Diary, wheat and peanuts are some of the most common. The eustation tubes sometimes are a problem for young ones, I suggest you make sure the doctor knows he is still having problems. You don't want to jeopardize your childs hearing.

I don't know of a home remedy, but it sounds like you should go back to the doctor. I realize it may be expensive, but this is your child's health you're talking about. I put off the doctor for the last week because I had a minor sore throat...turns out it was pneumonia.
I'm not trying to scare you or make you assume it's worse than it is....but....what if?

Keep him off dairy.
I'm not sure if it will cure it, but it will prevent any more ear infections.
I know someone who had really bad ear infections as a toddler, but when her parents stopped giving her dairy the ear infections went away.

Call doctor again. Ear infections are painful for children. I had one child that suffered through them a lot when he was young - at times they had to change medications. It needs a doctors knowledge. They aren't perfect either - and sometimes you have to changed meds for whatever reasons.

he probably has a resistant infection, which means that he needs to be on a different antibiotic to knock the infection out. take him back to the doctor. for the pain, get him some Homeopathic ear drops. they sell them in all pharmacies.

Well, lil mama take him back and find out how long will the medication( if he was prescribed meds) take to reduce your baby's discomfort. ask the doctor --get some answers that you can understand! If you don't understand---do not leave the office until you do...!
