When I get the hiccups they last a long time and show up later in the day and they are guaranteed to begin the next day too! Also, you cannot really hear a hiccup sound, but I can feel them and my stomach just jolts.

Does anyone know what this is/causes it? and does anyone else experience this?

Studies have indicated that hiccups are actually spasms of the diaphragm; a strong upside-down, u-shaped muscle that, in basic terms, separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity. This muscle is prone to occasional spasm, just as a spasm that can occur in the leg, arm, back, or any other part of the body. There are many "remedies" for hiccups; some of which are sworn by some people to work. However, if hiccups become more than occasional or really bothersome, check with your doctor. He can answer any questions you may have and suggest options for you. Good Luck!!!

Any time I get hiccups, I'm sure to have them the rest of the day (on and off, of course). If I get them at noon, I know they'll be back several times throughout the day!

If you're having episodes of hiccups really frequently (more than a couple times a week), it wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor. You can also take note of when they're occuring, as many things can cause them: Eating too quickly, taking a cold drink while eating a hot meal, eating very hot or spicy food, laughing vigorously or coughing or drinking an excess of an alcoholic beverage. There are also possible medical causes.

you probably inhale too much air when you eat, which is one of the main causes of hiccups. try to eat slower and take small bites if you don't already. when you get the hiccups, try holding your breath or burping. i've found that drinking water just forces more air into your stomach, which in turn, results in more hiccups. if this a very frequent or chronic thing, i suggest talking to your doctor the next time you see him/her.

hiccups are caused by air in your diaphragm, the best known cures are holding your breath for as long as you can, some people have even tried standing on their head, and this has been known to work also.....and although this sounds weird, try getting someone to catch you off guard and scare you! it supposedly startles the air back out of your diaphragm...hope this helps

it's been said that the heart skips a beat when hiccups occur, but in most cases holding ones breath, and or guzzling down some water often cures them.
