Yeah, sterilizing is really overkill. If you have a dishwasher, running them through there for a regular cycle will kill germs just as well. Go buy a bottle brush and just scrub them out in hot soapy water.

boil a big pot of water and let them sit in there for 5 min. I suggest you do this before the baby comes home as you will be to exhausted. I washed them then sterilize them. My MIL got a me a bottle steamer so I use that when I wash my bottles. I would sterilize the bottle at least once a day, just because it is cold season and the baby is still young. I would do it until about 4 months of age at least after that they put everything in their month anyways.

I had a preemie so it was necessary for me to sterilize bottles. As other posters have said, it's really not necessary to sterilize unless your baby has a special medical condition. I stopped sterilizing right around the time when the baby was out of the "danger zone" for illnesses. For example, babies who develop a fever at a young age automatically need medical attention. This is true for the first 3 months or so. I think that once illness isn't detrimental to the baby's health, it's fine to use soap and water or, better yet, the dishwasher.

Just wash them in the dishwasher from the beginning. They get sterilized in the dishwasher. I did not realize this at first with my first baby and was thrilled when i found out. If you dont have a dishwasher, soak them in hot soapy water. That does the same thing...kills bacteria.

Boiling them is outdated and not needed. People back then did not realize that soap and water do the same thing.

when u first buy the bottles you can boil water and sterilize them for 2 minutes then just wash them with soap and water! It says so on the box--and this way your baby wont taste that plastic.

doctors say that you don't need to sterilize bottles. Just wash them good in soapy hot water.
