No, it's not wrong. In fact, in many ways, it can be very helpful, just so long as you're not running away from a problem. Getting away, even if only for a few hours, is a healthy way to clear your mind and come back to a neutral, less-stressed state.

If you can't get away for a whole week, plan a day trip for yourself to somewhere you can relax, like the beach, a cabin in the mountains/near a lake/the beach, a park, etc. Leave your phone in your car or, better yet, at home. If you live with your family or are in near constant contact with them, let them know that you are taking a day off and won't have your phone with you. If they need to contact you, have them leave a message and only respond to messages (text AND voice) at the end of the day.

Make sure to schedule some R&R time every weekend, even if it's only for a few hours. The go-go-go schedule you may be putting yourself though can be incredibly detrimental to your health and sanity!

Why would you even think for a second that it is wrong? Nor is it even selfish. You can't give to others unless you are strong yourself. You can't be strong unless you get sufficient rest. Maybe a week isn't even enough.

I take two or three months off at a time and I don't feel guilty at all. It gives me more strength to do my job, which requires me to give a lot of my self. I give of myself willingly but I also take the time I need to replenish my body and spirit.

Just to parrot what everyone else says:

Everyone needs time alone to get their head straight, rejuvenate, and enjoy life -- even highly extraverted people.

Some people need it much more than others. I'm very solitary and sensitive to outside stimulation, so I need my space.

My wife quietly loves to be around people; but being a mom, she goes nuts sometimes due to the constant pressure of being with the kids; and although she is prone to not taking time off for herself, she needs to and enjoys having it.

Obviously context plays a part in when and how you take your week off, but the idea is a great and necessary one.

I do it at least once a year. I take a tent and bike/hike out to this lovely spot on a mountainside, near a little brook, and just take it easy. I read, play flute, take photos, and simply DO NOTHING. I don't see another human being for a full 7 days and it's lovely!

Make sure someone knows how to reach you in case of an emergency.

I often dream about just one itty bitty night alone away ... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, peace and quiet, jacuzzi bubble bath, soft music, candles, bottle of wine, sleep in the middle of the bed!!!!!!!!!

sorry, i got carried away......

As long as your absence does not cause an inconvenience to someone besides yourself that you are responsbile for ... say a sick family member, your boss, your child, etc. ... Honey, if I were you, I'd book the next flight.

I don't think it's a problem. Daily life can often be extremely overwhelming with the constant demands and expectations it brings about. It can be nice to have a break from all that once in awhile and have some alone time.

Think that some one loves you so much that his breathing seems to stop without you.Would you even like to part with him even for a week?Without love you like to be alone. But if your love-Bond is like a prayer then you would not like to be selfish even for a week. The loved one is more important then your own self.Meditate on my thoughts that God is present in a love-bond and you do not need even a place of worship.LOVE rejuvenates you and is more refreshing then even morning dew.mraju69@yahoo.com

Sure, this is sometimes called a hiatus or a respite, if it works for you, then do it. You will come back refreshed and ready to take on the world again. It's healthy.

Go, There is nothing better it helps you, and everyone who normally spends time with you. I do it and these are the times i can get my best thoughts in order, and time alone can heal
the soul and refresh the mind and body.
