I gave my baby her first food at 31/2 months. I started with bananas. Take it from there. Try only one food at a time. Let him be the judge.

This is what my doctor told me. Start with rice cereal. Put a tiny amount on the baby spoon and offer it to your baby. If your baby pushes it back out with their tongue (choking reflex) then your baby isn't ready yet. Try again in a week or so. Work your way from rice cereal up to banannas or some other fruit. Stick with the same food for at least five days before switching to something new. You can also try mixing rice cereal in with the fruit. Stage 2 can be introduces when the baby seems very comfortable eating stage 1 foods. This should take at least a month of stage 1. To try stage two foods, go through the same process as stage 1.

Ask your pediatrician. Most do not recommend solid food before age six months. I started with rice cereal (don't start with oatmeal or mixed since they could have an allergic reaction to that since their tummies are just starting to recognize and digest food) and then ONE food at at time for seven days. If you mix foods, and your child has an allergic reaction, it's easier to pinpoint what food that they are allergic to if you only feed ONE food at a time when you start.

2nd foods = when your child can sit independantly. This is usually around 6 - 7 months. I also included 4 oz. of juice once per day at 9 months.

3rd foods = Walking. Don't forget crackers and bite-size finger foods.

Good Luck!

i think it depends on your baby. we started around 4-5 months with 1st foods. my daughter started grabbing our food and trying to eat it (even though she had no teeth) start with breakfast, either fruit or cereal, if your baby is reading he/she will let you know, i think we started 2nd foods around 6 mos, but i cant really be sure. my baby loves them, wont go to 3s instead she has started with our food and she is 8 mos....the key- listen to your baby he/she will let you know, good luck

Started at 4 months with rice cereal, then barley. Then introduce VEGGIES first, followed by fruit. But of course, that's only one mom's opinion!
