I am a bowler and they are called strikes. There are only gutters, spares, strikes, and splits. I have bowled for 12 years of my life. I have got about 6 or 7 strikes in a game and it depends on the lanes' conditions. (how oily they are)

When I pay for a game of bowling (which is always as I don't run a bowling centre), I am yet to receive any sort of string. Unless you count the shoelaces they give you. I don't recall strings ever having anything to do with bowling - they are more a music, or knitting, kind of thing. If you meant "strikes" then my best effort is 8 in a game, but usually about 2-3.
