About the only real difference as Paul said is the 305 uses a smaller piston, (3.74 in) therefore less overall cubic inches. Nearly all performance parts you can buy for a 350 will bolt on to the 305, so you can squeeze more power out. They both last about the same, of course this all depends on how well you take care of it. It is essentially the same block, just that the 350 is bored out larger.
And to rain on SOMEONE'S parade, putting "350" heads on a 305 does not make it a 350. GM did not make "350 " heads, they simply made different size chambers. The 305's came with 58cc heads, with a 1.94" intake and a 1.50" exhaust valve. Chevy also made 64, 68, 72, and 76cc heads for 302's, 307's, 327's, 350's and 400 small blocks, that had 2.02"intakes and 1.60" exhaust. Edelbrock makes 64 and 70 cc heads, and the Sportsman II (same as the old Dart II heads) come as large as 72 cc's. Going to a larger combustion chamber size reduces your compression ratio, and depending on the cam and intake setup can dramatically alter your torque curve and horsepower output, but in no way does changing the head size change the engine size.
305's are good reliable blocks, you can do a lot with them.

Yes there is a difference besides the cubic inch difference. If you are looking to add more power to it the 350 is much easier to find parts for and a lot more choices in what level of performance you want. I owned a truck that had the 305 and I wish it had the 350 so that i could power it up. It just depends on what you are going to use it for.

They both have the same stroke. The 305 has a much smaller bore,
3.74", compared to 4." on the 350. Go with a 350. The 305 uses just as much gas, because you are stepping on the go pedal harder to keep up with traffic.

yes 45ci. But besides that the 350 is bigger, has more power and torque, and is arguabley the most popular engine ever made-that means HUGE range of aftermarket parts and extremely easy to find replacement parts. If u are debating between these two engines to put in a vehicle, go with the 350 you will not be dissapointed.

The 350 has a little more horsepower and torque. The 350 became the GM standard due to its reliability. All chevy small block engines have interchangeable parts.

yes there is a difference, its a totally different block.
you wouldnt be able to bore a 305 out to 4" because you would be into the water jacket.
