I am a freelance film maker, and whenever we are shooting a documentary I tend to ask the Qs. I am continually amazed at how much of a goon I sound on recordings, and ironically we have hours of footage of said goonage

People may be in love with their own voice as they hear it. When someone speaks, they hear their voice through the bone structure in their head, which makes it sound different (maybe better?) to them, than to everyone else. This explains why so many people are shocked to hear their voice on a recording.

I'd say that the majority of all teachers are in love with the sound of their own voice.

Actually, the reason that our voice sounds strange to us on a recorded device is that when we hear our spoken voice we hear it through bone conduction instead of air conduction. That means that the sound we hear actually travels through our own body instead of through the air. This necessarily makes it sound different and alien to us.

Others hear the sounds we produce through air conduction and can't possibly hear it the same way we do. A simple test of this is to cup one hand beside your mouth and your other beside your ear, thus funnelling the sound directly to your ear. This will give you a sense of what your voice actually sounds like to others.

Once you get past the sound dynamics the rest is up to content...

I like the sound of my own voice. For years as a kid I suffered with a high squeaky voice (people would sometimes think I was a girl on the phone), so when I went through puberty, and my voice dropped significantly I was thrilled. And then in theatre classes I learned how to control it, change it, project it. My voice got me girls, a DJ job, etc. etc. So, yeah, I like my voice. Thanks for asking.

Some people love their own voice and everything that they have to say. Others, like you and me are shocked and cannot believe we sound like that.

It's weird hearing your own voice through a microphone, because it doesn't sound like your voice (to yourself). I don't really listen to myself talk all the time. I'd rather talk to someone else also.

Hey, you're not alone; I HATE hearing my own voice recorded and played back!
But I do like to read what I write; pretty strange, eh?

yes, people who talk loud in Restaurants get me. Also the ones who talk on a cell phone so that all around can hear both sides.
What can you do about Stupid? "Stupid is as Stupid does", Tom Hanks. I loved Forest Gump was a great Movie, also loved Castaway, he did that great. When he pulled his tooth, oooops I am babbling, sorry.
