Yes!! It can crop up in the weirdest of situations. My sister in law was in the same boat as you, and ended up having gestational diabetes. It can't hurt anything to be tested.

Yes! Gestational diabetes occurs 1 to 4-percent of all pregnancies, typically in the second or third trimesters. It requires careful treatment to prevent fetal anomalies as well as maternal complications. Typically, gestational diabetes will subside after the pregnancy is terminated (you give birth). Today, it's just a standard part of testing for all pregnancies. Better safe than sorry!

It's not a painful test at all. You'll be asked to fast for at least 12 hours, nothing but water. You'll go in to the clinic and have blood drawn then given a sweet, kinda syrupy glucose solution (usually it's kinda like drinking thick orange or lemon lime soda) to drink. You'll return in two hours and have your blood drawn again. That's it.

Would be a good idea to do it. It is recommended because children of diabetic mothers are too big and that can cause trouble during delivery. Babies can have insulin excess and hypoglicemia for some days after birth. because during pregnancy they had to control high levels of glucose their mother gave them by the cord.

You will get a fasting glucose and then if your doctor asked for it, a 2 hours curve with glucose overload. (100 mg of glucose, quite sweet, but they may put something sour as lemon to help you with the flavor) They will take another sample (perhaps they will keep the butterfly needle in you so they won't stick you again) and see your glucose level after 2 hours of an overload.

Go on

Well, if you have symptoms of that.. yes. Even though you do not have diabetes IN the family.. it does not mean that you will not contact it(or should I say, it contact you)... I do not know you.. whether you are overweight... exercise or not, etc.. BUT.. you should pay attention as to whether you have symptoms or not.. If I do not have symptoms for a headache, I am or should not take headache medicine
